Position Announcement, Collections Manager, Aquatic Invertebrate Collection, Auburn University


The Department of Biological Sciences and the Auburn University National History Learning Center (AUNHLC) are seeking candidates for a Collections Manager for its preserved aquatic invertebrate collections. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, sorting, identifying, cataloguing, and maintaining specimens; processing loan requests; and maintenance and development of computer databases. In addition, the successful candidate will interact with collections-based MSc/PhD students and other AUNHLC curators and collections managers, and will supervise undergraduate assistants working in the Collections.

The minimum qualifications are a Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences or related field. The successful candidate will have a working knowledge of a wide variety of aquatic invertebrate specimens including aquatic insects, annelids, arachnids, and mollusks, with particular emphasis on freshwater mussels. Knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures in the procurement and maintenance of collections for exhibition and outreach education also is required. Additional desired qualifications include: a M.S. and/or Ph.D. in Biological Sciences or a related field; and familiarity with database programs such as Access, Filemaker Pro, etc. Women and minorities are encouraged to apply.
