Or...the small temp increase in my tank is making folks frisky.
Even though I never did even close to a proper cool down(mid 60's was all I got down to), both the darters and flag fish are definitely acting amorous. I now think I may have a couple more male darters then I relalised...I seem to have some with male pattern, but little color(if that makes any sense). I'll try to get a pic after a few have been "arguing"..as their color is up then.
Flags have been "flagging" for two days...the 3 males shadowing the larges female, shimmying all the time...although I"ve not seen any nest building..yet.
The largest male mud minnow has really exploded in color...wow! Even the blackchin shiners have added a nice green overtone that was previouly not noticed, and definitly chasing all around more.
Only things NOT really showing any more color are, oddly enough, the nrbd

Excellent!

The only fish I've noticed coloring up is my southern redbelly.

I've been saying there's something in the water here. My wife would agree.
I'm at the point now where I have three soda bottles going at once with brine shrimp. Takes about 3 days to get through one bottle, start a new one every day.
I've got SRBD, rainwater killies, mudminnow and mollie fry going at the same time. Starting to be a chore!
My SRBD as well as blacknose dace are continuing to spawn in the main tank. I'm pretty sure the rainbow darters have as well.
My damsals continue to plaster a batch of eggs on the tank glass pretty much weekly. One of these days I'm gonna try and raise a batch.
I guess the temps in my cellar are just right and the 15 hour photoperiod does the trick. The redbelly and blacknose have been been fully charged for close to two months. The damsals, rainwater killies and mollies seem to be always on [they're in heated tanks]. The mudminnows are definately done for the season. They totally ignore each other now. A month ago I was convinced the male was gonna kill her.
Now I'm just waiting for the bluespots. Their tank is gonna have to warm up on it's own. I'm in no hurry.
