ive got about 6-10 johnny darters in my native 29 gallon tank (darter only tank, other than some feeder minnows) and im wondering exactly what to feed them, ive been feeding them some frozen blood worms and they will eat those, and every once in a while eat pond flake food, but i know they should have more than these foods, and i dont want to give them the wrong nutrients, any help is appreciated.
i plan on getting some rainbow darters eventually, but johnny darters will do for now,
also there are something called diamond darters in the local elk river not too far from my house (20 minutes) its a new species that was found recently, evidently they are transparent, so i may try sometime this summer to see if i can get one or two of those.

Try other frozen foods. Brine shrimp, daphnia, krill, mysis shrimp etc. Live foods such as daphnia, mosquito larvae, ghost shrimp, finely chopped worms will also be appreciated. If you want to feed them dry food as a staple I suggest trying HBH Supersoft krill formula. When I had darters that was pretty much the only pellet they would take.

Many of us feed our darters a mix of frozen, freeze dried, and live foods. Blackworms, blood worms, brine shrimp, daphnia, mysis/gammurus shrimp, stuff you find pretty commonly in your LFS or big box pet store.
The diamond darter isn't necessarily a new species that was recently found as it was a a new species described from a former species (crystal darter). They are currently only known from the Elk River and relatively only a few specimes have been collected.

I just tried frozen bloodworms, and the darters loved them. Please, give us more!
