
Live Foods: Any experience with Daphnia eggs (ephippia)

Why isn't it more common to find these ephippia in the hobby? Sound like they should have most of the advantages of brine shrimp, *plus* be able to actually propagate the culture once you start it from eggs (possible, but hard with brine shrimp).

Just found this link to buy Daphnia pulex "resting eggs" (ephippia) from Carolina Biological: http://www.carolina.... culture kit.do. Has anyone tried starting a daphnia culture this way? Has anyone managed to collect & store their own ephippia? I know they need some specific conditions to produce them instead of the instantly-hatching ones you normally get in a healthy culture.

I tried dry egg cultures just add water . I had them in container used my pond water got 3 daphinia to hatch out of batch of eggs which is horrible .
