I went out with Edbihary this weekend in my home waters. We sampled various streams in two different drainages. Conditions were less than perfect because of recent heavy rain, but we found enough decent water to keep us occupied.
Highlight was finding the western tonguetied minnow, a state endangered fish.

Species list:
Mottled sculpin
Brook stickleback
Green sunfish
Central stoneroller
White sucker
Golden? redhorse
Blacknose dace
Southern redbelly dace
Redside dace
Northern hogsucker
Rainbow darter
Silver shiner
Johnny darter
Striped shiner
Rosefin shiner
Bluntnose minnow
western tonguetied minnow
Northern studfish
Orangethroat darter
Bluegill
Creek chub
Greenside darter
Fantail darter
Banded darter
Longear sunfish
Rockbass
Smallmouth bass
Largemouth bass
Black crappie
Grass pickerel
Silverjaw minnow.

Northern water snake, surprised to see it out on a 45 degree day

Sounds like collecting was not all that bad. Pretty good list of species there.
I do hope you got a pic of that western tonguetied minnow.......

Was great! I think Ed has increased his personal collection list substantially. I was tickled to find two species that I have not sampled before. It was also nice to have a partner, as alot of you know that I frequently dag a seine alone. The photo documentation sucked, because we were only two, and both were trying to make the best of little time. We really needed a good Teleost along to sit on the bank ( like he always does) and take pictures. J/K

Doubtless! It certainly lived up to my expectations and then some. I was particularly pleased to come home with a grass pickerel. That was at the top of my list of desires. Now if I can head east or south and come home with a matching redfin. A couple central longear, rock bass, brook stickleback, northern studfish, mottled sculpin, blacknose dace, and several darter species (rainbow, johnny, greenside, fantail, banded). How many of each, I don't know. I'm still counting.

Matt said that the big mottled sculpin was the biggest one he'd ever seen. It reminds me of a bulldog - so ugly that it's cute!

It was also nice to have a partner, as alot of you know that I frequently drag a seine alone.

I was very pleased that you took me on as your trainee. Thanks, Matt. I learned a lot from you, and feel like I made a new friend (and you can't have enough of those). I look forward to doing it again, as well as to you exploring my local waters with me.

Ditto Ed, when you have some time, and map out some good water, I will be up your way!

My pictures of the tonguetied minnow did not turn out. I'm still trying to figure out how to get good pictures in the aquarium, much less in the field. Here is the grass pickerel that I brought home. You can see one of the rock bass in the lower left.

My wife has never seen me without a beard, and the first time she saw me she thought I was homeless. hehe
