The Ohio regional NANFA trip went well this past weekend despite getting some significant rain the night before the event. Only one site was adversely affected by the rain but we still managed to catch a decent number of fish there as well. Here is the official report, I hope to add some pictures soon and anyone else who attended please add your story of the experience as well…

Continued... ( it told me my post was too long to be in one and aparently it doesn't like excel so it spread everything out way more than I would Like, any help fixing this would be great)...

The next morning we met up with even a few more people ( I think we had 15 on Sunday) and headed down the Kokosing River for a day of sampling and canoeing. Along the way we stopped and explored Honey Run which had a beautiful waterfall on it…

I found a green sunfish at the last stop on day one, in the Walhonding River. It was a rather nice one, too.

Holly and I had a great time. I went home completely exhausted (not a complaint, but evidence that I had a great time and got quite a workout as a result). I was concerned about the weather, it rained cats and dogs all the way from home to westbound on I-70, but it cleared up after crossing I-77 and was nice thereafter (except that one brief downpour while we were in Dresden). It was good companionship and good fun; hopefully these things can happen more often.

Thanks to Brian for organizing the trip. Thanks to Brian and Julie for their hospitality in their home. Thanks to Hector of ODNR for providing the canoes.

I had a fantastic time! It was so great to meet everyone! The only dark spot was falling in the Walhonding and ruining my camera because its bag wasn't sealed. :sad2:

I'd like to second Ed's thanks:

I learned a lot, had way too much fun, and brought home some awesome fish!

We got smallmouth and spotted bass... Longears are few and far between in the Muskingum drainage, it is on the eastern edge of their range. I was surprised not to see a green, but it looks like ed did find at least 1.

Brian,
Thanks again for hosting this weekend for us. It was well planned and there was never a dull moment. On the first day it was great to get out and see all the diversity we could (too bad Wakatomika didn't pan out). The second day's canoe trip was awesome! I've got sunburn on my knees still. That waterfall that was down in the sandstone/limestone gorge was rediculously big for that size stream. I've never seen so many salamanders either. Too bad the bass weren't biting anything though. That would have been the only thing I would've changed. Oh yeah, and Brandon and I were trying to hit all the biggest rocks when going through the riffle/rapids area towards the end. We were both trying to knock each other out of the canoe. We never had the American Gladiators style joust we were planning, but whatever, fun times. Let's do it again, soon!
Also, it was my pleasure to meet the new people that came along, and it's always good to see familiar faces too. Don't be strangers, if anyone wants to get in the water, I can always find time.

-Nate

My family and I were able to come down for the canoe trip on sunday. What a great trip. It was great to have the group of people together. I think that having a canoe trip/seining trip was a great idea. We were able to see many areas of the river and sample many spots also.

Brian and Julie you did a wonderful job. We could not have asked for a better day, except for Nates comments on the smallies not hitting.

Also Ed did a great job. He was in the canoe with his and my daughters. They had a great time together.

I will have to post some pictures this week of the river. I regretfully did not get any good pictures of the bluebreast darters we caught. but some scenery pics turned out nice.

Thanks again and nice meeting everyone.
