I found this pond by accident. The company I work for did some work on it 5/23/08. It's a storm water management pond, and the guy said every time it rains the water runs through so fast, it washes everything away. So Friday, we built a dam to slow the water. I asked the guy if he would mind if I get some fish from the pond. He said he didn't care, it was nothing but storm water to him. He didn't have it stocked with fish. Whatever is in it has come naturally.

Here's the pond...

A short walk around the pond shows to be fish in it. Look CLOSELY, they are there...

I walked all the way accross. It was only about 3 feet deep.

Over near the dam, there was rocks stacked to keep the dirt from eroding. In the rocks! JACKPOT!

This is what I got. I got about 2 dozen little fish. They are very active, which I take as a sign of health. Some of them appear to be very much like Guppies in body shape, so I think they are Gambusia Holbrooki, aka Eastern Mosquito Fish.

Yup those are gambusia.

Aggressive fish that do well in ponds like the one in your picture.

Very nice! I don't think you are that far from me. I'd love to collect some of those gambusia sometimes!

Here's still another post with all the photos included! What's that green stuff on the road? And what are those plants with the blue flowers??

I would guess that the blue flowers are blue flag irises. And my next band will be called "Wild Gambusia".

The green stuff on the road appears to be an erosion control blanket.

The green stuff almost looks like that spray on grass seed... that would actually be kind of cool. A path across a pond made of grass.

You can almost see the filament in the matting and the hay through it. If it is hydroseed, whoever sprayed it did a muuuuuuuuuuuuuch cleaner job than I have ever seen or done, that's for sure =D>
