Today when I woke up, 2 of my red shiners were doing a funny dance. Of course I figure this must be some sort of mating ritual. They basically chase each others tails in a tight circle.

Heres a video of it.

Dan, you're half right - it is a ritual. One of them is fixing to die.

I had posted a similar video earlier (minus the 80's dance music). Those look like two male Red Shiners fighting over territory/spawning habitat. That is the way they challenge each other with the winner usually finding a good crevice in the rocks in that area to spawn with a female at. Are there any females in the aquarium? Mine didn't act like that unless there were gravid females around.

I thought the 80's music especially made the video. :D I also very amused at how the sunfish kept parking himself in front of the camera.

Im not sure if I have any females. I have a couple types of shiners in there, and I cant ID the females.

I only saw them do the dance that one day, so I guess they were able to negotiate a settlement. They are both still alive too.
