I bought some crayfish at an auction last November. They were labeled "Cajun Dwarf Crayfish". As they grew, and grew, and grew, I got more and more suspicious of them. I have a couple that are three inches long. That ain't very dwarfish. A month ago I saw Brian Zimmerman's dwarf crayfish and I knew mine weren't Cambarellus shufeldtii. I got a hold of the seller, and he said they came from a vat of rosey reds that came from Arkansas. Farmertodd said they look like Orconectes sp. Can anyone narrow it down some more? Sorry for the bad picture of his naughty bits. I'll try again if it's not good enough.

It looks very similar to crayfish I have found in southwest Tennessee, in backwaters of the Wolf River. If those are the same species they will get a good 4" long, sans claws. Handsome bugs, whatever they are.

Those are some sort of Procambarus.

It's a cajun cray all right. Just not a dwarf. I'm thinking Procambarus clarkii.

They look like cajun dwarf crayfish to my untrained eyes, just lots bigger. I'll try to get better pictures. They have these little claws that are just right for reaching around and pinching me when I get ahold of them.

Here's another picture. I thought I had a good top view, but it wasn't in focus. I think it's a male, but I can't see any copulatory hooks. Is this a Form II male?

Finally! I got a halfway decent top view. I know I'm too curious for my own good, but this is really bugging me. I really want to know what these are.

Not P. clarkii, but definitely a Procambarus. It looks more like an alleni to me, but there are so many similar Procambarus sp. that it's difficult to tell.
