Aquarist position in Las Vegas

The Silverton Casino Hotel Lodge in Las Vegas, Nevada, and their Aquarium Department are currently seeking a qualified Aquarist. The ideal candidate will have experience with a large diversity of animals including jellies, fish, sharks, reptiles and birds. The candidate should also possess knowledge of life support systems, plumbing, mechanical skills and water quality. Keen observational skills, problem solving abilities and a great team attitude are critical. Job duties will include, but are not limited to, providing general care to all animals, servicing and maintenance of all filtration equipment, and water quality analysis. The incumbent will be responsible for daily upkeep of exhibits and quarantine. He/she will participate in animal acquisition, transport, quarantine, food preparation, food culture, disease diagnosis and recognition, treatment protocols, propagation, backwashes, pump repairs, LSS monitoring, system upgrades, housekeeping and repairs. This position requires a well-rounded candidate that is up to the challenge of every aspect of labor required to maintain professional aquariums. Public speaking, working in confined spaces, heavy lifting, extended diving periods (free and scuba), swimming, bending, crouching, lifting and the ability to work under limited supervision are required skills. Computer skills are necessary for accurate and organized data and record keeping. A Bachelor’s degree in Biology or a related field is required. Two years working in a public aquarium or related facility is required; 5 years of experience is preferred. Scuba Certification is required.
