They have bypassed two perfectly good bridges to allow motorists the opportunity to drive through a stream that harbors two state threatened fish. Bigeye shiner, and Roseyside dace. Not good in my opinion.

I'm not sure what the fascination is with fords and how that ties into heritage but I've been to quite a few places that were scenic byways, public land, heck maybe even fed land, where those types of crossings have been maintained. Typically they are bedrock outcrops or really delapidated manmade structures. Cleveland metroparks has several busted up fords that needed to come out long ago but they provide great fishing access. The other ones that are newer still have water flowing over them frequently but they are really restrictive at times. The other side of the coin is how much impact would a bridge construction create? Not that they couldn't avoid it, but practicallity speaking that often isn't the case.

They built the bridges ten years ago, but recently built the fords for motorist enjoyment. The fords run right along side the bridges as an alternate route for motorists. A buddy of mine has recently witnessed a local washing his car in the all all too accessable car wash.
