Caught these little guys in the slackwater potomac above dam 5. Hedgesville, WV side.
In my opinion it is a bluegill.
Eyes large indicating not growing very fast.
Has a higher number of bars than my northern bluegill, almost like the little midgets of Texas. I am not that familiar with overall appearance of the bluegill in your area. May be a mixture of northern and coppernose but mine of that sort have fewer bars like the coppernose. Some of my coppernose from South Carolina are similar to northern bluegill in terms of the number of bars. Maybe the trend continues where as the bluegill ranges north along the eastern slope the bar number increases.
Its a bluegill. I am full of it and I know it.

Looks like a bluegill to me as well.
