Not really a big deal, but on the Colbert Report he mentioned snail darters and showed a picture of one. I couldn't believe it, I've never seen any pictures of darters on tv at all.

I think it was either the July 24 or July 23 episode. I'll edit this later with the episode and a link to it.

Edit: Full Episode
It's around 8:00 minutes in. :D

He was making a joke about tree huggers wanting to save our way of life so that snail darters can have sex in our drinking warter. He claimed that he could taste it in his water  His usual humor.

Earlier this year, the Report featured ichthyologist Melanie Stiassny from the American Museum of Natural History. She gave Colbert of a personal tour at the Museum about the importance (and scarcity) of fresh water. It was hilarious and Dr. Stiassny played along nicely.

You can watch the snail darter bit -- and the entire Carl Pope interview -- here:

It's as much, or more, of an adjective than a noun now. I bet I find one satirical cartoon every couple months that has the world snail darter in it. Google it and see where it ends up in blogs...absolutely nothing to do with fish.

Apparently, snail darter-bashing TV comedy show host Stephen Colbert is getting a spider named after him:

Just wondering, but you do know his whole show is a mockery of the Bill O'reilly show? He refuses to be wrong and constantly gets the other side to admit that they are the person who is wrong (again Mocking O'reilly).

I love his show and the Daily Show.

He's not funny at all. Nothing intelligent comes from him. I'd watch O'Reilly over him any day.

Okay that is the begining of the thread moving away from native fish in satire and towards politics. The thread would be closed if this continues.
