As the title says. My youngest Grand-daughter (5yrs old) caught a small tadpole and Daddy would'nt let her keep it. She calls me up crying and wanted me to keep it for her, sooo. In it goes to my holding 45 gal in the garage. Fade to this last April. Tadpole changes to what I thought was a bull frog (was'nt, was a green). Anyway both have same appetites. I noticed I was missing a bunch of Bluefin Killes, small Fag Fish and others. (this after I was worried about feeding it). I WAS going to freeze it and dispose of it quietly. Heres the senario, garage door is open I'm reaching in to get frog. Pick frog up, turn around and theres Grand-daughter standing there. "What cha doing Poppa?", Me: "Uh moving Frog to, to uh, , uh a new home!". Well the rest of the story is I had to take her to town and buy a new 10 gal tank, hood, pump, $10.00 worth of plants, an extension cord. Of course with gas at $4.00 she had to ride in my Hot Rod pickup (12 mpg). I ended up spending about $75+ (Including a stop at Mickey Ds)......Do you know what I call Grandkids? REVENGE  .....I hope shes drives her Daddy nuts for fostering this frog on me....Jim

You know you love that frog. Of course you do, you just spent $75 bucks to prove it!

If granddaughter can milk that much out of you just with a smile, I'm sure she'll cost her Daddy every penny he has, no worries there.

You should have said, "Oh, I'm mailing it to my friend Mander in Oregon, she has a really big pond in her back yard where he'll be very happy the rest of his life."

Too late!

What's not to love about a frog that sounds like an untuned banjo?

Oh.. Jimjim, I got the prefect book for your granddaughter, "The calls of frogs and toads" by Lang Elliott. Includes a CD of 42 of America's 95 frog species. Awesome! You'll be collecting frogs the rest of your life!

No? Okay, well then, how about, "A plague of frogs : the horrifying true story" by William Souder.

Both available at my local public library.

I had a pair in my pond - that is an appropriate description of the sound they make. Not a very original name though.

REALLY attractive herpetarium you've built, though!

I'm not kidding, it's great looking!

And there's always one of my favorite movies: "Frogs!" starring Sam Elliott, in one of his very early roles.

Look on the bright side, she has an interest in nature. It's better than those nasty little Bratz dolls, they look like hookers. What parent would buy something like that for a young girl?

My youngest daughter insisted on bringing back a fat little tadpole from a collection trip. Fortunately, we had an unused 5 gal. But I'm not complaining, she's 9 years old and already becoming an effective fish catcher. She's better at getting baby bluegill than I am. And on that trip, she netted a 2.5" smallmouth bass that I couldn't get near.

My favorite part is the largemouth that makes the dolphin noises.
