I see DIY projects for glass, and I see them for acrylic, I don't see them mixing the two. May I assume it isn't a good idea?
So, say, if you had the glass for the sides of a tank and an acrylic piece big enough for the bottom laying around, you wouldn't try and pair the two together? Would it be because what works to seal the one doesn't work to seal the other?
Any one know?
Thanks!

Acrylic is "welded". I assume this softens the acrylic and allows the acrylic to bond to itself. Glass is "glued" with silicone, the glass pieces never touch. I do know that others have had a hard time getting silicone to bond to acrylic so I would assume this is the obstacle in hybridizing these tanks.

I second what Uland said, They are different kind of bonds so it probably would not be a good fit. Also, glass is much heavier then acylic so the weight ratios would be off, therefore probably leading to a heavy imbalance and causing leaking. I personally have a glass tank that works fine for now but its fragile, but glass is nice because it dosn't scratch easy. I am thinking about using close pins or those black chip clip things to pin the paddle to the glass to leave one more hand free while shooting (and close pins/metal chip clips may scratch an acylic tank). But in the future when I plan on traveling more, I will probably be making an acylic tank (more durable and lighter) also I wont have to look at those heavy silicon welds I have along the coners and side of my tank that cause friction and prevent easy paddle arrangement and movement. Well, thats more than you asked for but when building a tank weigh out the pros and cons and decide what will suit your needs the best. Good luck!

It can be done. We had an exhibit tank that had the bottom, sides, top, and back panel made of acrylic and the front was a double pane of glass that had window tinting between the panes. The acryllic pieces were welded together while the glass was attached to the acrylic with an industrial strength epoxy I believe. We had the tank manufactured for us, so I'm sure it would be out of the normal cost is worth the result category.I see DIY projects for glass, and I see them for acrylic, I don't see them mixing the two.
