Well I finally got around to setting up the stream tank that I've been planning for awhile. Just set it up a few days ago. I'm trying to keep it fairly open for lots of swimming space while still having plenty of nooks and crannys for my darters. Right now I olny have a banded killie in the tank but once it is fully cycled, I will be transferring my 7 rainbow darters, 2 blacksides, 3 other killies, 2 spotfins, and I hope to collect some NRBD for the tank. BTW I am using an ehiem ecco 2232 for filtration. Comments and critique would be very helpful! Here are a few pics from today.......

and the left side.

im not sure if I should add something more to the aquascape, i kinda like the middle when its really open. What do you guys think? Also, are there any suggestions of fish to put in the tank?

Thanks for looking!

Hi James,

Your tank looks great! It will be really nice when the algae starts to cover those rocks a bit. The only reccomendation I have is a nice natural background, if you are going stream tank I would say tan (if it's a silty river) or light blue (if it's a brook stream). This kind of background looks great for a natural tank and is perfect for photography.

I think it would look nice also if you added some more wood on the left side.

Good luck :D

Your darters will love all those rocks. It looks really nice...maybe add some rock to the left side as well.

Thanks! Ya I'm thinking of adding some more driftwood to the left side and maybe some lower cover plants in the center. Like I said I want to try to keep it open for maximum swimming space. I will also have a powerhead blowing right across the rock structure so it will be darter heaven. I will post wome more pics in a week or so when I start to add fish.

James, Looks like a 55?
I agree you should put a background on. I paint the sides and backs of my tanks with enamel. I do a blotchy blend using pastel greens and blues. Looks nice, but its something you have to do before adding water.
Is your val just planted in the sand? You will probably need more light for it unless those are compact flos above.
Nice simple layout.
Is that a artificial "mangove" root structure? It looks good.
Good fish you are adding too.

I would add some more root like that to the left side as well. Two 40 watts should support the val and it should spread well, that has been my experience with it.

I go with natural backgrounds. Eventually algaes will grow on the glass, I only clean the front, or sides if nessacary. It looks good and harbors food for small fish and invertrabrates.
