Very nice drewish. It's amazing how different some of these fish look from the ones we got in other areas. The redline looks very slender.

Is the color true on the adult blotchside? The color on the top band of the first dorsal is yellow-orange rather than red, or maybe I've only the species in the spring when color is truly red? And yeah, good pictures.

I do need a new camera. Its on my long wishlist. I've noticed that the ones I get are more slender than the ones I see others post.

Thanks. I think I mentioned that on the ride back. Now that I know where they are at, I'll try to get some spring pics next year. Hopefully we can get an underwater camera next time out to capture some pics while snorkeling.

You'll have to blame the lack of underwater camera on me. I had a brand new housing all ready to use with one of our newer cameras and one bit the dust the day before leaving me empty. Bruce, that is the typical mid summer color I've seen on blotchsides before; I've never seen them in spawning condition.

Most interesting - the banded darters I pulled out of the Red River in KY have much thinner green bands, and more of them. But, they do have that red stripe on the dorsal fin, and the body shape is exactly the same.

The tangerine is beautiful. I'd love to find some of them, but I gotta push further south for that.

Seems like a pretty good day at the office.

(Stops to wipe drool off the keyboard.)
