Current darter tank. 75 gal, reef+canister filter+airstick. Limestone rocks and sand came out of my creek, as did the rainbows and fantails.
Only five darter varieties right now: rainbow, fantail, greenside, variegate, banded. Plus one little smallmouth bass, two juvenile hogsuckers, and a little (2.5") longear sunfish. And a very small (1.5") banded sculpin, don't know how he got in there, must have dropped in when I was feeding the guys with the little black shrimplike critters I find in the spring stream - lots of big sculpins in that stream, too.
The rainbows, greensides and banded scoot around the floor, while the fantails and variegates tend to hang out under the rocks. The bass chases the sunfish, while the hogsuckers tend to stick together. The rainbows will nudge each other around, but there doesn't seem to be much interspecies arguing, though when feeding time comes, the big (4") variegate is definitely the boss. That pesky bass is getting aggressive, looks like the cat is going to get a snack. Not big enough to eat anyone else... yet... and dang, those baby hogsuckers are growing fast! All of them, including the suckers and the little sculpin, love frozen bloodworms.
