But we are thinking about making a WV community tank with Longears, spotfin shiners, buntnose minnows, redfin shiners and MRBD. Can they be happy in the same conditions in a 55G?

Sure, that would work, as long as any longears present are too small to eat any of the shiners.
thanks, I would think that a 5" longear cannot eat a 3.5-4.5 inch minnow?

Yes, it will work. Look at a lot of Todd Crail's (farmertodd) or visit his website at www.farmertodd.com He has many aquariums with a variety of species. The main key it just to feed everything! If all fishes are fed well they will have little reason to cause harm to other fishes in the aquarium. Also, I think community aquariums are much more interesting because you get to see how fish would naturally act in their environment and see how they partition or divide their self among the community. Very interesting to watch, and good luck!

Just be sure to err on the side of caution when deciding what your longear can or cannot eat; they can pack away a fair-sized minnow.
thanks, I will keep that in mind
