Feeding my fish
anyone else here raise there own fish food?
i just got a meal worn mini farm started yesterday.
i friend of mine hooked me up with 300 maybe 400 baby worms
about the size of tooth picks and 1/2"-5/8" long and about 50 black colored beatles.
i fed about 20 or so the the fish to see if they liked them
i started a feeding frenzy in the tank the fish evan splashed about 3 cups of
water out of my tank.
two of the longears that havent eaten in maybe a week tore up the golden mealworms
no food made it the the tank floor. needless to say they liked it.
i should have a endless supply of feed worms if i dont dip
into the worm bank to deep. this spring i plan on starting a waxworm farm also
for the fish to eat.with the feeder fish flathead minnows is this a good diet for my
new found little friends.
#1-meal worms
#2-wax worms
#3-flathead minnows
#4- jacks tropical flakes
should i feed anything else to the bigger fish?
maybe ghost shrimp

There are a couple of threads in the general discussion and captive care sections about cultures for various types of live foods. Searching "live foods" or "food culture" or a specific food like "grindal worms" turns up a couple useful threads of information. Using the archives of the mailing list on the NANFA website should turn up alot of things too.

I swear, my longear actually salivates when it sees mealworms! One day I put a bunch of them in his tank, thinking the madtoms would also appreciate some, and he gobbled them up until he couldn't swallow the last one. He kept gulping, but it would only go halfway down. What a glutton.
