Is Pimafix a good and safe product for sunfish?
I had to remove some fish due to some kind of cotton looking
stuff on the face. Two green sunfish had red lines in there fins.
All the other fish look ok and eat the ones that ate very little.
I think were sick when i caught them to bring home.
I'd like to remove the carbon from both fillters tonight
and add this in the a.m. if its a good product and someone else backs it up.
On a side note.
Thanks to all that have helped me with this new found joy
of keeping my bait fish alive. I have changed in my thinking these past few weeks.
BEFORE-color was a good bait (longear sunfish) that We called Pumpkinseed.
a soft bait was (green sunfish) that We called warmouth.
I now know these fish as
LM Longear
LC Green sunfish
Also not all shiners are shiners some have blue,
some have a hint of red, and so on.
With all of this new found knowledge I will tell others.
Not all bait fish are minnows and blue gills or shiners.
thanks tony

I can't help you with the medicine question but my Bluegill have personality. Sounds crazy, but I think they do.
The Sculpin, Crays and Catfish? Not too much.

It's mild as medicines go, and sunfish are tough fish. It shouldn't do any harm. I use Pimafix and Melafix with tropicals sometimes, I haven't had to use it on my natives yet. I've only been keeping them since early spring.

ive been using pemafix and melifix in my 270gal sunfish tank for 8 years and it is great preventitive med. it helps tissue grouth. i keep it in the tank at 1/2 dose weekly. and i cant remember the last time my fish had any sign of disease. if your fish have fungus, bad fin rot, or parasites you should treat them with maracyn (erythromycin) for 7 days first and them melafix at full dose for 7 to 14 days and 1/2 dose per week and your fish will be very healthy. myIt's mild as medicines go, and sunfish are tough fish. It is one of the only things that I am allowed to use. I work at a fish hatchery and even though my exhibit fish will never be eaten they are considered food fish, so I am extremely limited to what I can use. Pima and Melafix is on that very short list and have used them both very successfully on various speceies of Sunfish. However if it is a presistant problem you might need to go with something stronger, but if it is just begining that should work fine.
