I've searched for this fish in Florida ever since I first heard of them, but have never seen one. I've gone to known localities, but can never seem to kick one up. Anyone have any tips for them in this state or nearby Georgia?

Thanks,
KW

P.S. Why does it always change the first letter of the specific epithet in the title and why can't you edit it?

I have never taken them in FL or GA, to the best of my memory, but I can give you some pointers since I have seen them often in SC and NC. You need to look in the coastal plain for sluggish tannin stained streams and swamps. The muds are almost always found in slightly undercut banks composed of mud and debris. The best way to catch them is to set a seine just below and kick the mud towards the seine. If you are working a dip net, I would suggest bouncing it into the debris(to reduce the amount you get in your net and flush the fish out) and work from bottom to top. These are obviously not the only methods, but I hope this helps.
