Just curious if Tiger Muskie, the sterile hybrid of Pike and Muskie, have ever been used to control goldfish outbreaks, and how well did it work.
Nice thing about the Tigers is that they are sterile, so if they cause a problem, it is not a lasting one.
I can only think they would be well suited to goldfish, as goldies max size is about perfect fit for an adult Tiger Muskie.
Common carp get too big for our native perdators, but goldfish on the other hand, have to be an easy target for an esocid. Correct me if I'm wrong on that.

Without googling the topic, off the top of my squash, I can tell you that tiger muskies are stocked by some states with the intention of controlling panfish numbers. It would be a logical conclusion that they would do a good job with goldfish. That assumes there isn't a more abundant or more easily accessed prey forage of course.

As I understand it, they were actually not too good at controlling the panfish numbers (although the tigers did get big fast), because they prefer to eat more cylindrical fish with soft rayed fins. The disc shape of the panfish, combined with sharp spines puts them lower on the esox dinner plate.
Now goldfish on the other hand are sort of a better target. Easy to get, soft fins, cylindrical etc… Tigers would seam the perfect match.
If the tigers cause any problems, then just stop stocking them, they are sterile as said before.

Tiger muskie males are sterile but smaller numbers of fertile females are reported. Its unlikely for tiger muskies will sucessfully reproduce in the goldfish pond if no pure parents (pure muskies and northern pike) are existed in that pond. Tiger muskies would love to munch on goldfish all day! But remember that goldfish are fast reproducing fish, the tiger muskie probably wont dent their population without help.
