what native plants are common in the trade?

That's a good question, killier. I have been meaning to ask it myself. I have been buying plants at my LFS. But I have no idea which, if any, are native. It would be good to know that to try to be as authentic as possible. I'd like native plants that require a minimum of care, just push them into the gravel and let them grow, with typical aquarium hood lighting on for about 8 hours or so a day.

Any recommendations for good web sites to do research on aquarium plants?

I've been meaning to make up a list for people. Hope to get to it soon. In the mean time, you can go to www.natureserve.org to look up specific species. It lists native species of the US as well as exotics that have become established (this is for all species, not just plants). Type in the latin names of the species you have available at the store, and they may come up. Just be sure to check that they are listed as native and not introduced.
