Request for MS/PhD graduate student

I have departmental funding (i.e. research assistantship for 2 years)
for a student interested in an obtaining an MS in aquatic
ecology/conservation biology. This is an excellent opportunity for a
student interested in the conservation of our aquatic resources. This
stipend is not tied to any specific project but the student must be
willing to conduct research in aquatic ecology and within my realm of my
interests. I would also consider a student interested in pursuing a PhD
- but, I can only guarantee funding for the first two years, beyond that
will be dependent on us procuring additional funding.

I have a variety of interests and a couple of potential projects that I
hope will lead to additional funding, but you are also free to choose a
topic of your choice within the realm of interests. My interests are
detailed on my web page (link below) and include aquatic invasive
species, species habitat relationships, ecotoxicology, life history, and
the conservation of aquatic organisms. I use a variety of techniques,
including, mark-recapture, stable isotopes, and morphometrics. One
potential project involves an endemic springsnail species in AZ. We are
interested in exploring the causes for habitat partitioning between the
endemic springsnail and a physid snail (competition, temperature,
predators…). We are also interested in the effects an invasive crayfish
may have on the habitat use and population viability of the springsnail.
Similar projects dealing with the ecology and conservation of endemics
(e.g. pupfish, springsnails, crayfish, amphipods ...) as well as the
control/eradication of aquatic invasive species in TX, NM, AZ will also
be considered.
