Hi everyone, we have three full time employment opportunities within the Marine Life Department at West Edmonton Mall, here are the job
descriptions:



Marine Life Education Coordinator



Working out of the Marine Life Department, this full time permanent position is responsible for overseeing the development and delivery of all educational based programs and services offered by West Edmonton Mall.



Specific job duties and responsibilities will include:

* To plan and prepare and teach Marine Life Department related
educational teaching sessions and materials relevant to all Key Stages of the National Curriculum and for higher and further education students.

* To give informative talks both within West Edmonton Mall and
at other venues, in order to promote the Marine Life Departments research and conservation initiatives and motivate people of all ages and abilities to respect and care for our environment.

* Liaise with Education Partnership consultant on course
delivery and methods on attracting customers and to plan, organize and deliver activities for members of the public.

* To oversee all administration of Education bookings, enquiries
and the general duties involved in the running of Marine Life Education.


* Co-ordination of Marine Life volunteer and work experience
placements.

* To plan, research and write interpretation for Marine Life
Education, write information and promotional materials and check and proof-read text as required.

* To partake in husbandry of range of animals kept within the
Marine Life Department.

* To share ideas with other zoo educators and other
environmental education professionals by attending meetings and conferences locally and nationally.



The successful candidate for this position will possess the following
qualifications:

* Prior training in educational programming with a working
knowledge of the Alberta educational system with the ability to develop courses that comply with Alberta Education curriculum standards.

* Possess a post secondary diploma/degree/certificate in
education or related field and should have experience teaching in a classroom setting or in a similar Zoo/Aquarium environment.

* Strong knowledge of animal and biological sciences and direct
knowledge of marine life species is a definite asset.

* Previous experience acting in a staff supervisory capacity
with strong mentorship abilities.

* A valid Class 5 Alberta drivers license and current First Aid
and CPR.

Marine Life Animal Care Assistant



This is your chance to work with our wide variety of marine life animals at West Edmonton Mall!



Our Marine Life Department is currently hiring for a Marine Life Care Assistant. Responsibilities for this position include providing sound operation, public speaking and performing in our Sea Lion shows, assisting with the care of animal habitats, nutrition and diets, water quality and animal training. The Marine Life Care Assistant will have the opportunity to work with and care for sea lions, penguins, sharks, sea turtles, flamingos, fish, caimans and many other reptiles and amphibians.



Rate of pay starts at $11.35 per hour.



Applicants must possess a keen interest in aquatic life, have a passion for animals and be enthusiastic about learning the aspects of all areas related to Marine Life. Candidates must also have excellent public presentation skills, be self motivated and outgoing, feel comfortable with the care and handling of reptiles and be a team player.

Applicants must be able to pass a Security Clearance.





Marine Life Animal Care

This is your chance to work with our wide variety of marine life animals! The Marine Life Department is currently hiring for a full time permanent Animal Care position.

Rate of pay starts at $14.65 per hour and increases with experience.

The primary responsibility of this role is to maintain the general upkeep and well being of the animals of the Marine Life department including the Sea Lions and the various species of the aquariums departments. Specific duties include training and interacting with Sea Lions, maintaining salt and fresh water aquariums and exhibits/habitats as well as caring for a variety of marine life, fish and reptiles. This position will work closely with veterinarians and maintain our animal's health along with the veterinary equipment and facilities.

Other duties include ensuring all components of enclosures are running smoothly and to animal needs and performing in daily sea lion shows and animal presentations including reptile and sea turtle shows.

All candidates must have their Alberta Animal Health Technologist certification and be willing to update this certification yearly.
Applicants must possess a keen interest in aquatic life, an excellent knowledge of animal care and aquarium systems, feel comfortable with the care and handling of reptiles and other marine life animals, have excellent public presentation skills, be self-motivated, and a team player. Post secondary education in biology, marine biology, or zoology is required. Experience working in Zoos or Aquariums is a definite asset. Previous SCUBA training and experience is also beneficial to the position.
