Is there a fresh water type of mullet?
as a boy i caught some in a pond close the the beach maybe 1 mile or so but there was other fresh water fish in this tank as well
can this fish make it in a native tank? or a close sub species.

Striped mullet can do just fine in freshwater. I imagine you would need a huge tank, though, several hundred gallons at least. They are active schoolers that reach well over a foot in length.

We have mountain mullet Agonostomus monticola in Texas, too. They live most of their live in rivers. I've only caught them in the Guadalupe near Cuero, but you can find them in other places. We also catch plenty of striped mullet inland, and they do fine in fresh water. Both types get big.

ok thanks.
I will find something else then. as for now I don't have room for a 2-300 gallon tank.
but I must say I do like those silver looking minnow type fish with strips.

Have you looked at northern studfish (Fundulus catenatus)? Similar look at a more manageable size.
