I am in the process of setting up a 90G tank for natives..I would like a green sunfish but am open to other options..so please feel free to give suggestions. My preference is towards more aggresive fish but I dont want a single fish tank. I recently lost the green sunfish that I had, he died suddenly after a large water change. The personality couldnt be beat along with the coloration, he/she was more personable than my oscars. Thanks for any advice.
Well the green certainly fits the bill of more aggresive, and personable as well as attractive, There are many to choose from in that line and size of fish that also qualify, such as redear, longear, pumpkinseed, etc. I think it mainly falls to you personal preference, you may also want to consider some of the basses, the shadow bass for example is a beauty, then there are the small but sometimes scrappy smaller species, such as dollars, obesus, My oh My the list goes on and on. Its really hard for me as a native fish enthusiast to pick a single fish or group of fish that i like the best, I want em all

That died suddenly after water change concerns me though, i do as high as 50% changes sometimes if the gravel really needs vacced really bad with no noticeble problem, do you have city water supply with maybe high (noticeable chlorine levels??) was the replacement water too hot/cold whats up with that??
Yea I recently moved to South Texas and when I did that water change I got preoccupied and didnt add Prime to 2 of the tanks..so it was my stupid mistake...I have a 24G with some small tropical catfish and they didnt do well right after that water change either, but I forgot to add Prime to that tank too.
I am the same way I want a rather diverse tank..but I know with greens tankmates are limited..so I will keep researching here to find some fiesty fish that can live in a semi aggressive comunity setup and give me a good variety.
FYI..my dad lives just outside Rockville, IN and most of his side of the family lives in the surrounding areas, I usually get back that way once or twice a year..I would move there but the job market and my wife say otherwise..lol

I have kept Texas chiclids until they reached about 6 inches or so, also ive never been blessed with enough tanks to separate everything so he was in with fish of various sizes, never had a problem or found them to be extremely aggressive, also there is now in circulation a red texas that is a beautyHow about Texas cichlids (Cichlasoma cyanoguttatum)? I believe they occur in the Corpus Christi area. You should be able to keep some with large sunfish in a tank that size, I think (I have no experience doing this, so someone please correct me if I'm wrong).

I thought about the Texas Cichlids but dont really want them, the red and green texas cichlids dont actually occur naturally in Texas,,from what I can find it is a Mexican cichlid that for some reason was named a "texas" cichlid
