are fish able to change under certain home tank situations?
the reason i ask is my sunfish Lepomis megalotis longear sunfish
and Lepomis cyanellus Green Sunfish seam to change there background hue
after cleaning this tank all fish are washed out pail silver. but it does come back
if i turn off there lights all fish in tank turn dark almost black and green.
yet as of last week i put up a new plastic backdrop and the sunfish changed again.
is this normal due to stress or can fish control Cryptic coloration on demand?

There are several threads here that discuss this already. It was a discussion on lighting, substrate and the combination of the two affecting the coloration of fish. As well as other threads regarding the affect of different foods.

If my post was out of line please feel free to edit or omit at your own will.
it was just a of the hip observation of my little fishes.

yes fish will change colors due to many things. their mood, the surroundings, the substrate, the back ground etc etc.

Im sure it was the black rocks i had added to the tank. i removed about 1/2 of the pale to white gravel for another tank
to speed up the cycle and put black rocks back in 3/4"-1.5" all fish changed color.
