could they have gotten into the filler system past the pump and now live in the sponge/carbon tank and breed?
or are they just good at hiding in the tank and made it?

Daphnia pulex i think,well thats what i was told.If they have a food source, daphnia reproduce rapidly. Do you know what species you have?

so this does happen.maybe this is another reason my tank is cleaner these past few weeks.Over the years I've had all kinds of critters show up living in my canister filters. I've had rainwater killie fry, crayfish, green crabs, snails and scud among others. The snails and scud both established large reproducing populations.
