would it be a bad idea to put a stonefly larvae in my 55 gallon aquarium?

would it survive ok? what do they eat? will they eat uneaten fish food?

none of my fish are big enough to eat it, but i supposed the crawfish could eat it if he wanted to.

Some stoneflies are predaceous, some detritivorous or algivorous as larvae. Your stonefly may do well in your tank if it is well oxygenated; don't expect to see much of him, though, until he's ready to emerge as an adult.

i went ahead and tossed him in last night, and he sunk under a tree root. he had bubbles attatched to him and it looked like he was struggling so i gave him a nudge and he crawled over to the base of the root, which is where my largest mudminnow was.

the mudminnow went nose down on the nymph and got that awesome S curve in his body, and just hammered the nymph.

that poor nymph didn't last 30 seconds in my tank

at least now i know what i can feed my mudminnows!

I tried stonefly nymphs in my tanks on a couple occasions at least.

They pretty much died soon after
