The Montgomery County Department of Parks in Silver Spring, Maryland has an opening available for a non-career Natural Resources Technician in its Park Planning and Stewardship Division. The Aquatic Resources Management Group within the Resource Analysis Section plans and coordinates inter-agency and volunteer efforts for the inventory and monitoring of aquatic macroinvertebrates, fish and aquatic habitats in County Park streams, ponds and lakes in support of the Countywide Stream Protection Strategy, Watershed Restoration Plans, Area and Park Master Plans, Operation and Use Plans and special projects. Duties will include: biological monitoring data collection in the field, identification of specimens in the laboratory, maintaining a computer database, writing technical reports, and general office work.

The successful applicant will have a Bachelor’s degree in natural resources management, fisheries, environmental science, ecology, or a related field, a valid driver’s license, and knowledge of basic office software. Desirable characteristics include: experience in the collection and identification of Maryland freshwater fish, benthic macroinvertebrates, and herpetofauna, the ability to conduct basic wetland delineations, and/or experience using GIS. The candidate must have the ability to work outdoors independently and as part of a team exposed to weather and other outdoor hazards. The starting salary will be $16.59/hr.
