I live in Northern Ohio and have been fishing Northern Ohio waters for years. I have never seen or been able to catch a red-finned pickerel. Can anyone tell me how to find them?
Thanks for the help

In Ohio we have the subspecies known as the Grass Pickerel so all the literature will use that name. Where in N. Ohio are you NE, NW, NC? They are common in backwater areas, oxbow lakes and other slack water areas near vegetation but I occasionally find them in rocky areas with no vegetation. In NE Ohio I have caught them in the Grand, Chagrin and Cuyahoga.
I have not been able to hook one and find they are easier to catch with a net.
