or maybe printed on a tyvec type material.

I would recommend getting a spare Peterson field guide to FW north american native for field use. It won't last forever but I think it's only $13.00. For that price you can beath the heck out of it and not feel guilty.

For those of you in the Great Lakes, Gerry Smith has a plasticized field guide coming out this fall that will have photographs and Emily Damstra drawings for the species accounts. Should be GREAT!

A paperback Peterson's field guide could have the spine cut off and the pages laminated then spiral bound I'm sure. I don't know if a Kinko's type place would do this for you or what they would charge. If t turns out to be costly many of the fish won't occur in the areas you frequent and you could only have the pages you need laminated. It probably still won't live through being submerged, but it would hold up to wet hands flipping through the pages or being splashed fairly well.

I've been trying to find something that will live through being submerged with no luck. Best I've come up with is the idea above and a waterproof dive bag to keep it in while you're not using it.

I have an old copy of Peterson that is falling apart that I plan on having laminated one of these days. It probably won't be cheap, but it'll last for a good long time. Of course, I only need to laminate the plates.

You can buy adhesive 8.5" x 11" sheets of clear plastic pretty cheap at office supply stores.

I have that book for Ohio, and the one for Pennsylvania also. They are very incomplete. For example, there is only one darter in the Pennsylvania book. You WILL be disappointed. I agree with those who say to get a spare Peterson's Field Guide.
