Anyone else haveing a hard time waiting for the creeks to become active again :0) ? Its finally starting to warm up in Indiana, but the fish here havent figured that out yet. Ive been out a couple of times in the last few days, but it seems there are no fish to be seen yet.

Yes! Same here in NW Ohio. I went out Wednesday, creeks were still mostly iced over. We've had some warmer weather and a bunch of rain, so now they are flooded! I haven't been in any rivers yet, but they are flooded also. ](*,)

I went out three times this weekend. I found a bunch of darters with bellies full of eggs.

You just have to find out where they went, usually to deeper water. I was out twice this weekend. Score: frecklebelly darter, couple of redbelly dace, orangethroat variant in full color, put back some fantails and johnnies.

I went Friday and Saturday, didn't see much until I started flipping rocks and checkin thru leaves and vegetation. I caught a small female rainbow darter for my darter tank :D Showed it off to some fishermen, got their 14 year old grand daughters 100% attention. She wanted me to catch her some fish for their tank, but they didn't have a container with them.

I saw a swarm of tiny Cent. Stonerollers, and almost caught what I think was a quarter sized Red Eye. I also missed a dark black fish, not sure what it was :( I should have went today, but they were predicting rain and it was kinda cloudy after lunch...

My waders leak thru the knees for some reason, maybe it was the way that I was wearing them  I think the rubber flaps came up underneath or something...

Like John said, you just need to find them. Sounds like everyone had a good weekend to go out. I was able to get out a bit too - caught some TN snubnose, redlines, greensides, fantails and then some BND, rollers, striped shiners, redbreast sunnies, bluegills, and rockbass - but I was only out for some plants and rocks.

So you've just got to be in the right area and target certain areas. Check leaf packs, root wads, deeper pools, etc. I know what really helped me out this weekend was working downstream. The water is so clear right now that when I worked downstream, the water became murky and Ihave great success when the fish couldn't tell I was coming. Darters were still in the riffles, the dace and shiners were in pools, and a very large amount of young sunnies and rockbass in undercut banks, and piles or twigs.

Where are you in Indiana?

I've seen a few swimming around, but I've not worked up the fortitude to get in there after them yet. 70* outside or not that water is COLD.

The fish are active here in Virginia, but they never really were hard to get at. I went out this weekend and got Rainbow darters and Greenside darters, both with nice colors and big fat females. Also Fantail darters, spotfin shiners, stonerollers, BND, bluntnose minnows, a chubsucker, and some monster longnose dace, one pushing six inches. Gotta love springtime coming back!

Fish4Fun,

Yeah, I'm itching to get out, too. We've had a few days of warm temperatures and a bit of rain, and the rivers are still iced-over. What got me was the other day I was watching the news and they said that the Milwaukee River near my house was going to be at flood stage on Tuesday. The river's still completely iced-over! How does that work?

Brian
