A friend of mine just offered me a free 180 gallon aquarium. I accepted right away even though I have no real place to put it. My conumdrum is, should I get rid of my 75 gallon in favor of this behemoth of an aquarium? Will maintenance be too difficult with such a large water volume? I planed to put the green sunfish I got from the Zimmermans in the tank but they are doing great in the 75. Plus, when full the tank will be about 1 ton in weight, I will put it in my basement but still, it could damage the floor. Maybe i should just resell it. My friend suggested that I try to get money for it but I will most likely never have such an offer again in my life. *sigh* Any suggestions?
Don

KEEP IT! Set it up in your basement. Unless your floor is finished in some way a concrete slab should not be damaged by a tank. Residential slab concrete should be designed and built with at least a break strength of 2500 psi.

My advice is.... Keep it if its nice and dont leak, it is just like money in the bank. whether you fill it right away or not its still like gold. Your concrete basement floor would definitely support it, but whats the rush. I can guarantee at some point in the future you will want it if nothing else to trade for other tanks. where i live that is a $600.00 tank alone, and i wish i could get one now because the cute little fish i started with and are in a 75 are now 4 inches and growing and i have no intent to ever get rid of them. Unless you really need the money now, wait awhile, as i said money in the bank. Fish folks will buy that today, tommorrow, next week, next year, whatever...or you might decide you want it after all> Just my humble opinion.

Keep it! Somebody offered me a 100 gallon tank once. I didn't have any place to put it, but I MADE a place! It took a while, but I'm not sorry and you won't be either. (Thanks Todd!)

Thanks for the input guys!
My floor is a hardwood floor, but built over the concrete floor.
I kind of do need the money because I will be finishing my studies this summer and will be at a field station in which we have to bring a lot of our own supplies, but if i get a nice tax refund then maybe i won't need the money.
Oh by the way it's a 6' by 2' by 2'.
I am leaning more toward moving my tanks around to accomodate it, but setting it up would mean a great deal more money. (stand, proper lighting, filters, etc.).

Absolutely keep it! You should be able to make a stand out of cinder blocks and plank. Should be pretty cheap. Tack a piece of fabric around it and you're done.

Do make sure it's flat though. Doesn't have to be perfectly level, but it needs to be flat so you don't stress the seams in directions they weren't designed for.

I stashed mine in the garage while I gradually bought things I needed to run the tank. I got a stand with mine, but I took some time and fixed it up a little. It was a fun project. I still need one more powerhead.
