odd bug found in pond

i was collecting snails for my darters to eat and found this odd bug as well.

Looks like a dragonfly naiad (nymph) to me, perhaps belonging to the Libellulidae family commonly called the skimmers. However, I am bad at insects, wait for Nathan (Newt) or someone more familiar with aquatic invertebrates to chime in.

Looks like a dragonfly nymph to me, too. I'm not up on the scientific names of these guys, either, so hopefully someone else can chime in with more info.

It is definitely a dragonfly nymph. I wouldn't want to venture a more precise guess without looking at it up close. There's a good key here that should cover most dragonfly species in your area; you'll need a microscope or at least a magnifying glass.
