I have a fish that is in an indoor fishpond that I have. It came in with some feeder fish that I put in their which are swordtails and mollys. It was only about an inch or two long then, now it is 6 or more inches. I would like to know what kind it is if anyone can identify it for me. Thanks!

It's either Lepomis punctatus or L. miniatus depending on where it came from. Maybe someone else can tell.

Yep, that is a Lepomis punctatus or Blackspotted Sunfish. It looks rather healthy too, nice fish.

Thanks guys! Im glad to know that it isn't going to be a large fish, my pond is only around 250 gallons. I tore it down recently and put in a new liner because it had a slow leak, which is why I was able to catch him, normally he would be too fast. The other fish in the pond with him are two irridescent sharks, one is around a foot long an the other is about 5 inches, a few swordtails that were sold as feeder fish and a few goldfish that were sold as feeders. I also have a couple of peninsula cooters that I hatched a couple of months ago. Do you think that he will be ok to leave in this pond long term? It is inside so it doesn't get any natural sunlight, but I have flourescent grow light on the ceiling for the plants around the pond.

The only eventual problem I see is the iridescent sharks who might be able to eat him once they get some more size to them.
