I am lost! I am trying. At what size do you guys begin working at this. Currently my juvenile osseus just watch the blood worms fall to the bottom.

One inch is a good start...However most gars under 12 inches can be easily converted to prepared foods. Osseus can be a bit trickier than most as they tend to associate movement with food they will however catch on quickly. I have personally never had a gar that did not switch over to pellets.

Try using a Skewer and place on it an appropriate sized piece of Fish on it. Wave this slightly off to the side of the fish to get it's attention. It should get interested and strike at the food. Do this a few times and get the fish used to feeding right near the surface. Once it is used to taking food off of the skewer place a pellet on it. The fish should take it with no problem. After this point it is usually just a matter of dropping a pellet in the tank and the fish will recognize it as food and eat it with no problem.

I've found the plastic coated wire used to secure childrens toys to the original packaging work extremely well for a "skewer". This allows you to bend the skewer and feed not only surface dwellers but also make sure madtoms get food (or medicated food).

I remember you telling me about that Teleost...I have not had the opportunity to try that yet however that definitly sounds like the perfect tool for doing this. I personally just use regular ol' bamboo skewers.

I have to say I tend to have very good luck with Gars (Hence the "Gar whisperer" Nickname) but really it is not all that difficult to get these fish to prepared foods.
