Many years ago, I listened to "old timers" describe in detail how to fiddle for worms. I was about to write it out but this link pretty much tells the story. It's almost a shame I don't use live bait anymore.

I need to try this myself one day. I have heard of it for years down in Carrabelle, Florida and got to watch a couple guys "grunt" some worms up a couple years ago. They had a length of an old car leaf spring and drove a wooden stake into the ground using the heavy steel spring. Then they kneeled down and begin rubbing the top of the stake with the spring with long firm strokes. vooom vooom vooom. You could feel the vibrations in your bare feet. Worms came out of the ground within a 10 radius.
A 12v battery and metal probes will do it too.
I liked the article... especially how a variety of animals lure the worms upward.
There is a video out there of a controled experiment. releasing a mole into a worm bed and watching the worms flee to the surface.

Wow! Both of those things are really neat. I think I saw a show once where people in Australia or New Zealand use similar techniques to coax those giant worms out of the ground. Neat!
