zebra mussels

any one know if zebra mussels have goten down to the carolina yet?

Not as of yet...They are however reported on the western edge on NC.
I'm unsure if these where just stray sightings or established populations.

Where there are a few zebra mussels, more are sure to come :( But fortunately, I don't think they can move any further south than this -- I believe their thermal tolerance starts to decline as you get into the mid 80'sē F.

Nice... too bad it doesn't indicate the status of these populations. I would imagine they're not exactly thriving in the warmer areas of their range. Well, hopefully one minor benefit of global warming wil be the decimation of certain dreissenid populations down south. Sure, major metropolitan areas will be devestated by severe storms and flooding, and nasty vector-borne diseases willl be on the rise, but at least the zebra mussels will be gone :P
