We were looking for darters near the confluence of Big Creek and the Grand.

Ed Bihary and I had seen trout earlier when we arrived and after nothing in the seine after several attempts we decided to grab our fishing rods.

I had a few smallmouths playing with my line, then I hooked this monster.

34.25 inches

Wrong gear for trout, from what I've read, but correct for Smallies however.

I thought you didn't fish? Great catch though! That's bigger than any Steelhead I've ever caught!

I don't think he meant the lure that the fish bit. I think he meant the decision to put the net away and use the rods.

At nearly half my height, that's the biggest trout I ever saw. I think I'm still on the adrenaline rush from that one!

Yeah, that'd leave you with the jitters for a bit!

So what "landing equipment" did you use? ;)

I don't really, I just started since I got my canoe. I have a $20 walmart pole.

Ed's Perfect Dipnet of course, not because it's all we had but because it's perfect.

And yeah I was Jittery for a long time.

I have seen alot that big or so this spring (caught a few in a net accidentially when working some under cut banks) but it seems like the big ones are gone and it is mostly little ones now.

Shoot me a PM next time you are hitting up one of my parks.

That is a really nice fish. Once you hook into a nice fish and feel the adrenalin you kinda get hooked. I really enjoy netting fish but it is also great fun to fight a monster like that.

Yes, Matthew! And Andy, too! Shall we have a group outing one of the next couple of Sundays?

Nice fish by any standards! I bet it put up a hell of a commotion in that little stream!
A great way to round out a collecting trip. I'd have a hard time concentrating on netting with those puppies cruisin by my legs. One minute I'd be there holding up my end of the net, next minute gone - the 9 weight would be getting a workout.

Lets plan something for mid June. This way more people can come if they are available.

Wow, I never seen a rainbow trout that big, that can eat the ones they stock around here for breakfast.
