Where do I measure the snout to eye from? the lower or upper jaw?

I think its upper jaw.

I would think that it is the furthest point forward when the mouth is closed. But really have no reason to believe that.

It all depends on how you define snout, I have seen it both ways.

fish base def.: The part of the head in front of the eye; the distance from the eye to the anterior tip of the head above the upper jaw (normally the upper lip).

I was trained to always use the portian that protruded the furthest. In Esox that would be the lower jaw. In other cases such as fishes with subterminal mouths this would be the upper jaw or farthest extension of the snout.

This however is the rule for Standard or total length......Actually I'm not sure which is the accepted norm on this for Snout to eye measurements. I personally always just use the above rule and role it over.

I have not been slapped yet for using it so I suppose it is valid.
