Forgive me for asking what would be a basic question for most aquarists, but my fathead minnow has recently developed a large white lump behind its eye. Is this ich? light patches on my fishes skin have been around for a while but they never looked like the "salted" look most pics of ich show. Neither does this, but the very large white lump almost achne-like (only no red around it) is worrying.

That doesnt sound like ich, to me it sounds more like some kind of fungus that is starting to grow. If you could get a picture we might be able to help a little better though

Sometimes a fungus can be secondary to something worse underneath. It could be Lymphocystis. I agree post a picture if possible.

If you can't post a picture, try googling around for "aquarium fish diseases" and you'll find some pictures online to compare to.
