They stopped eating prepared food when I put them in my 600g but still eat the live stuff. I might have to stop with the live to get them back on the prepared stuff.

Thought I'd share a few pics of my new longnose gar. I bought them in may @ about 4" and they are 11" & 12" now. The smaller one is 1" shorter because he was @ the crappy lfs a week longer. They still have 2 left as of a week ago that weren't even 5" yet. They stopped eating prepared food when I put them in my 600g but still eat the live stuff. I might have to stop with the live to get them back on the prepared stuff.

Its amazing how fish stores can keep fish small for a long time when they can grow so quickly

Thanks and yes very unfortunate with the lfs. The kicker was the guy telling me that the secret gar food was black molly fry and that gar were slow growers... I told him about my soon to be 15" longnose wasnt quite a year old and he gave me a look like I was telling him a lie.

LMAO!!! If they threw in some sizeable preyfish (like some full size neon tetras) Im sure the Gar would grow rather quickly
