I'm down in the Outer Banks and caught some Peanut Bunker (juvenile menhaden) in a cast net. They're filter feeders. Anyone have any success at keeping them (or other filter feeders) alive?
Can filter feeders be kept captive?

I've kept shad before, I think they are considered to be filter feeders. I used hikari micro pellets, and a feeding ring. The shad quickly learned to feed under the ring when I added the tiny pellets. Paddlefish can be fed pellets as well, the limiting factor being their large size and pelagic nature not filter feeding. The main downside to filter feeders is getting enough food to them with out the uneaten food fouling the water. My shad didn't bother pellets that were not in the water column, but the popeyed mullets I kept with them did ....
