Hi everybody. I'm from southwestern Ontario in Canada and am the new proud owner of 4" pumpkinseed from a pond near my house. So I decided to join. Just saying hello. There's a picture of the little guy. He is in a 17 gallon tank now but when he gets bigger will be relocated.

Welcome to the Forum. That's a strangely shy looking p-seed, I'm sure that was a momentary lapse of judgement for him.

I was very fortunate with his colouration. I am happy with what I got.

Hi Donk ... welcome to the forum from Manitoba.

Before too long that Pumpkinseed will be eating out of your hand. Mine have become quite tame.

I feed my sunnies a wide variety of things ... some flake food but they don't really seem to enjoy it, small pieces of shrimp which they love, earthworms drive tthem crazy, houseflies, moths and spiders caught around the house never last long once they hit the surface of the water, frozen bloodworms are eaten regularly and are likely the majority of their diet, darned near anything gets chomped down readily. Their special treat though, is small minnows ... they just go nuts for them.

Just remember it is far more likely you will kill the fish by overfeeding than by starvation, so go light on the foods, and do regular partial water changes weekly.

I'm originally from SW Ont and the number of colourful sunnies is quite interesting. In the west, we have very few, and I live pretty much at the northern extreme of their range.

Enjoy!

I almost have it eating out of my hand. I hold a worm down there and he'll come up bt still be weary but the moment I let go he'll speed up and grab it. How offen would you recommend feeding? Every other day or so?

id say something to the equivalent of a full nightcrawler every other day should work, or a small minnow a day, or whatever the equivalent of that to smaller bugs is.

donkey dont worry about Irate's post, most of the time he's joking around and adds tons of humor to posts. I know dsaavedra has 2 p-seeds so he could probably give you a better estimate if im wrong.
