This has been something I have been thinking about for a while. Alot of NANFA meet ups are located in the south and midwest, but the number of NANFA members in the northeast seems to be growing if the mass collection thread and all the new yorker and new jersey threads are any indication.

This makes me wonder if NANFA could set up regional chapters to host their own regional sampling trips and events.

I was thinking a good regional division for the northeast would be from the hudson drainage to the penobscot drainage.

What would the northeastern division be called? not sure, i like calling it "fallfish" myself after the largest minnow in the east with a mainly northeastern distribution. But i think we may be nearing a point where a northeastern chapter of the North American Native Fish Association may be a possibility.

Why is a chapter necessary to accomplish what is already done by the regional representatives and members in general? Seems like an unnecessary additional layer to an organization not that large. If the trips in the NE are already accomplished by ehtussiastic and active members how will this be any different with a NE chapter? You can still host events, sampling trips, etc. on your own without being a chapter. Trips in the midwest and south happen more frequently because there are many members in the regions and they have the motivation to pull things together. There doesn't appear to be a MA state rep, why not just fill the vacant position? Chapter of _________ organization also opens up the door to schisms that just aren't necessary.

FirstChAoS,

How about setting up your own regional club? I set up the Southeastern Wisconsin Native Fish Club (SEWNFC) for NANFA members and others in southeastern Wisconsin. We have monthly meetings and/or special events.

I think this can be done unofficially, kind of like the Catfish Alliance. IIRC Elmer Guerri had a very active region and charged dues for that region. It should be up to the Regional Rep. There needn't be formal chapters recognized by the BOD as such.
