pretty red crayfish

i noticed this guy hanging out along the edge of a big artificial pond and i thought i would share some pictures. he was one of the prettiest crayfish i have ever caught. don't worry, he went straight back in his pond when i was done taking these.

I'm gonna go out a limb of the invert tree, which I am not the best at climbing, and say Procambrus clarkii. Looks tasty enough...

almost definitely Procambrus clarkii. he doesn't belong here in california, but then, almost nothing that lives in the waters here does. i wonder if there's anywhere around here where i could catch these for eating. all of the creeks near my house are way too polluted for me to feel safe eating something caught in them, but they're teeming with these guys.
