Hello everyone,
I've recently moved to MO from southern GA. My interest in keeping native fish started just the other day when I saw my first darter in a small, rocky stream outside of Columbia. I've kept a variety of tropical fish over the years and look forward to learning about the native fish in this area. Any advice or info on good collection areas in the Columbia area would be appreciated. I was able to collect 2 orange throat darters this afternoon and they are already feeding on frozen blood worms.
Thanks!

Zuk82,

Welcome to the forum! Unfortunately, I'm in Wisconsin and can't give you any collecting locations. But I wanted to welcome you to the forum. I hope you find your stay both informative and enjoyable! It's really great that you're starting out with Orangethroat Darters. I think my first darters were Johnnies. Nothing wrong with Johnnies, but to start with Orangethroats, that's a real treat!

Since you're in Missouri, you should invest in The Fishes of Missouri as a reference. I've never even caught a fish in MO, but I still love that book. It's a classic, and will teach you not only what fish are, but how to look at them.
